would any one know if the 20 valve and 16 valve share the same piston rings ?
and has any one fitted the silver top head to a blck top bottm end ? i understand the silver top has smaller ports but it has a samller combustion chamber and the black top has higher comp pistons

I doubt the 16 and 20 valve share piston rings, however I'm not certain. You won't find a Blacktop bottom end mated to a silvertop head. Blacktop bottom end is lighter and weaker. Blacktop pistons are mated to the open combustion chamber. The Silvertop has squish bands and pistons are suitably cut. As such they may be interchangable, but you'll have swish problems. If you're looking for cheap HP. The blacktop pistons can be flycut and the block decked to produce a 12:1 CR. You may need to go lower to stop detonation in a lower octane fuel. Mate the blacktop with a set of silvertop rods and you have a very expensive and reasonably compeditve package. If you are a reasonable fabricator you can also make up an adaptor block to put the intake manifold in a straight path with the head. (it appears that the head was designed before Toyota realized they couldn't fit the intake manifold under the bonnet. You'll also need to get rid of the stock airbox. The trumpets are twisted and are pretty ugly cast plastic (rubber for blacktop). Reforming this will give you a little more HP.
thanks for the info , i will be fitting a set of 6" trumpets over the xmass break , i'll look into the adaptor as i have seen it before ,
i have a black top that i will be building up with silver rods and arp bolts 0.020 " oversize black top pistons std comp , and TRD mls head gasket i've heard that the TRD head gasket is slightly thinner , though i havnt actualy cheeked myself
