im interested to find out if any of the chassis builders are still building beam chassis , it seems like most of them ( in oz ) have stoped doing them , it's great that there all building A arms chassis , if you can offord to build a whole new car
but im looking for a new chassis to fit most of my current parts into , including front suspension ,

If you chase up prices l for one would be interested to find them out. I am still of the opinion that beam cars can still run at the front of limited classes. If you look to the states 2/1600 class cars with torsion bar suspension pull some quite credible results. I think a Torsion bared car with bypass shocks could run well and truly at the front of class 3 for half the price of an a/arm car to build.
i've spoken to bob about a new hunter rivy as thats what i already run , but he said no beams any more , so not to sure about that one,
he still think beams have there place , im sure a few guys out there are like me and dont have the $$ for a whole new car , but could buy a new frame and fit there running gear into it ,
and with the new inspection's happening there could be some guys looking for chassis to replace there older ones ,

I had thought about that to Jeremy and asked a few people in the know about who was building frames that would suit a low cost change over. One name that came up that hasn't been listed here is Shane Cottee. I don't know any more than that but he maybe worth chasing for a price etc. You don't know if you don't ask!!
Bob Strawbridges mark V's beam cars can be easily converted to an a-arm later on down the track when you can afford it so you do dont have to purchase a whole new car!! Lambys cars started out as a beam mark V!!
di - wish i could but dont have the tooling and time , hell took me 18 months just to give the old girl a birthday ,
fishamn - is bob strawbridge still making mark v's ? a mate of mine brought luke old mark v , i liked the chassis , and its pritty uch what id be looking for ,
spaz- was told the same thing yesterday buy racerimports , and your right , im looking for a new frame to replace my 1987 built hunter rivy not saying the frames stuffed , far from it , it just cant do want id want it to now ,

If you don't have any luck with the mark V, let me know, we could build whatever you want. I built my car and am about to go again, so building a frame is not a big issue if you know what you want.
Go the Southern Cross mk V and yes i am biased. Easy enough to convert later to A arm if you like, good value for money, well known frame makes it easier if you want to sell the car later, good size car suitable for all buggy classes. Bobs been building frames for thirty plus years. Its all good
Heres one Ive been doing on Solidworks. haha. Its not fininshed yet but when it is. Ill draw up the plans and we can get Anthony to make us one each. hhahahahaa.
hahaha good stuff mate , yeah his and spizzo's cars do work nicely , im still in his ear about building me one lol and once again im sure there are other guys out there that just want to replace there chassis and use there currant parts ,

How much extra do you think it would be to build an A arm car? You can use your original shocks and hubs so the only extra is going to be the steering rack and mounting hardware. Factor in selling your current arms and the cost of the A arms versus a new beam and its really not all that expensive for more travel and better geometry.
i see what your saying , but one of my biggest dramas is time , so that was part of the reason for just wanting a beam frame , to swap my current gear into ,

I thought the same thing about using all my gear in a beam car but in the end I wish I had just built the A-arm from the beginning. The southern cross was easy to change from a beam to A-arm as it only required removing the two diagonal bars that went from the edge of the floor rail to the end of the beam tubes, and joining the tubes at the centre point of where the beam was with radiused tubes that went up to the top rail on the front, adding arm mounts and steering box mounts. I used my original hubs and 10" shocks and I have 21" of travel, Personally I would order the southern cross as an A-arm and sell your old car as a roller, you will be way better off. I could not beleive the difference it made going from the beam to A-arm it was a completely different buggy to drive and was a lot quicker, that extra bit if suspension is amazing. Hope this helps !
