Launching the 2011 Queensland Offroad Championship in style will be a brand new long course offroad race, organised by SEQORRA. Based out of the town of Texas, on the Queensland/NSW border (approximately 3.5 hours west of Brisbane & just a stones throw from Warialda) the event will be held on the 26-27 February 2011. Making it the ideal race for teams to kick start their year before heading to Donald or Hyden in April.
The race track is located on Ron and Brett Miltons 1500 acre property, just 3km from the centre of Texas. The Texas community has embraced the offroad race and has thrown their full support behind the event. Texas offers a number of accomodation options ranging from the Caravan Park, Pub and Motel, making it a comfortable weekend away for the whole family. The track is expected to offer good spectating, with an elevated pit and spectator location providing views over the property and racetrack. A jump has been constructed in the prime spectating area and the council has kindly helped out by grading the pits.
The race will commence with scrutineering, recon and a prologue on Saturday morning, before the first three lap section of the long course. Sunday will see the race cars battle it out over another 9 laps of the 20km course, which will be split into three sections. SEQORRA is expecting a solid entry field at the inaugural event with a number of North Queensland teams indicating they will make the trip south to battle it out with South East Queenslanders. The race is also hoping to foster a "State of Origin" feel and would love to see of few New South Wales based teams skip over the border to join the race.

Preparations for the inaugural Texas Border 250 on the 26-27 February are progressing well and SEQORRA is having another big working bee at the track this weekend. With the event just a month away the organisers would like to remind competitors to book their accomodation early. Rooms are still available at the Stockman Hotel Motel, 3 High Street, TEXAS Ph: (07) 4653 1310 and for those who are self-sufficient with motorhomes, transporters or large trailers, overflow camping sites with access to toilets and showers are available by arrangement with Ron Milton (0418 713 289) at The Reg Saunders Memorial Oval. There will be no camping available at the race track.
A full set of regs are now available on offroadracing.com.au and we hope to see a few of you make the trip across the border!
The inaugural offroad race in the Southern Queensland border town of Texas is sizing up to its Yankee counterparts reputation of "everything is big in Texas". With 36 early birds jumping in to secure their starting spot, before entries to the Texas Border 250 officially close on February 18th. Keen for some racing after the long summer break, the SEQORRA run event at Texas has attracted teams from far and wide. Michael Marson is hauling his Ford V8 powered Kadco from North Queensland, along with the Polaris RZR's of Brian and Graham Moohin from Mackay. While central Queenslands Billy Geddes will be making his east coast offroad racing debut when he unleashes the ex-Bernie Gwynee, Offroad Cartel Chevy Truck on the Texas terrain. The South East corner is also well represented with Michael Collins, Nev and Ryan Taylor and Andy McKay, to name just a few, set to lock horns with the recently crowned 2010 Qld Offroad Champ, Tait Svenson in his Super 1650.
Making the most of an event on their doorstep are Joe Bulmer from Goondiwindi and a big crew from Warialda, including former Australian Champion Terry Rose, Howard Rose in Terry's ex-AORC Championship winning Raceco, Greg Taylor and Mark Sankey. Bruce Chapman is another New South Welshman making the trip north, with the aim of adding a Texas Border 250 trophy to his Warialda collection. South Australian, Ivan Schmocker will also be bringing his recently acquired Kadco north of the border and also half way home when he rolls it on to the start line for the race.
In recent years the 4WD Classes have been well supported in Queensland, and the trend is set to continue in 2011 with 10 entries in the Production and Extreme 4WD categories to date. The production 4WD Class will see Rob Chapman jump behind the wheel of Clayton's AORC Class winning Triton and take battle with the Pajero's of Mike Topfer, Evan Burns and Nicole Melville, along with the Polarises. While the Clayton Chapman will take the reigns of the Rob's naturally aspirated 3.8 litre Pajero, making for an exciting match up with the Extreme 4WD AORC Class Champion, Colin Hunter, who will be pulling the covers off his new Dodge Ram Truck. Tony Brose will be looking to be the cat amongst the pidgeons in his recently imported Suzuki Jimny, while Leila Chapman will be piloting the families third entry.
The recent working bee's have seen the track shaping up nicely thanks to work of the property owners Ron and Brett Milton and the SEQORRA team. The main track is nudging 20 kilometres in length and has been designed as a real drivers track as it loops it's way through the flowing hills, gullies and paddocks that make up the Miltons property. The high spectator points will allow great viewing, especially when combined with the series of man made jumps just inside the main gate. To encourage the growth of the sport in the region, spectating will be free at the Texas Border 250.
The race will commence with scrutineering, recon and a prologue on Saturday morning, before the first three lap section of the long course. Sunday will see the race cars battle it out over another 9 laps of the 20km course, which will be split into three sections.
The organisers would like to remind competitors that there is no 98 Octane fuel for sale in Texas.
Catering will be provided by local community groups at the race track across the weekend and Texas Inc. will also be catering in the club house at the Reg Saunders Memorial Oval (the main campground) in Texas on Saturday night. For those arriving earlier on Friday night, head to the Stockman Hotel in the main street where the local football club will be running a BBQ. The Texas community has embraced the event and thrown their full support behind it.
While there is no camping available at the racetrack, a few rooms are still available at the Stockman Hotel and there are plenty of unpowered sites available at the Reg Saunders Memorial Oval in Texas, with plenty of space for even the biggest of transporters. Camping will be $5 per person per night or $20 per car per night and the facilities include clean showers and toilets in the clubhouse. To book a site contact Ron Milton on 0418 713 289.
