I am pretty sure they are a VW part and screw into the end of the master cylinder on a bug.

i know of some guys using them for engine oil pressure emergency shut down ,

basicly if the engine loses oil pressure the switch opens circuit which open the coil reley shutting down the engine ,
they say its more reliable than a navigator looking at the gauges

You could try using the type that is built into the banjo? let fittings etc to go wrong.

Correct, it's a common as muck VW part although don't get the 3 pin model as it is to operate a brake system failure light.

We use one off a forklift. Does the same job.

Although I prefer the one in Mark-Pauls car - a sensor which sits against the front of the brake pedal arm and when you depress the pedal it disconnects, closes the circuit and the brake light comes on.

That is the best way to go for sure. I had one of the hydraulic ones fail on my car at Mildura 09. The plastic around the terminals could not hold up.

Cheers,

Beau
