CHENOWTH DR2 REBUILD

Just out of interest thought I would join the build-up section.
The trusty old girl is getting a refresh, including---

-New front arms, taking the track width 7" wider
-VQ35 maxima engine transplant
-transmission rebuild and re-ratio
-remount radiator and trans coolers
-Sandblast and re-powdercoat frame
-New dash/wiring/ECU
-new panel colorscheme
-extra unnecessary pipework to keep CAMs happy

Hopefully in time for Finke

pic attached is the new lower arms built by Chenowth, should be getting shipped tomorrow along with ne heims etc.

Good to see that all the new rules can't keep an old wheat farmer down Jones.
Are you going to Croowell for a look? ( You owe me a beer )

What do I owe you a beer for? Wont be going to crookwell, was hoping to, but got a better offer!
Here is the frame on its way to the sandblaster today, Reckell is taking it to Leeton for me, hope to have it back next early next week.

Note the 'lack' of pipework in the frame that CAMs thinks is not enough, so I need to add some useless extra pipes to keep them happy'er. Also note the higher side hiprail that I added last year because the frame missed out by less than 10mm.

Well cams intentions have worked. You are giving it a refresh and a power up along with the extra bars etc. It will probably be better than ever and you will have a ball. wink wink

Yeh, having trouble deciding what colour to paint the chicken mesh and nesting boxs. It will be a shame to get 'shell grit' all over it again!

Progress is a bit slow, sandblasters took an extra week, family takes up a bit of time.
Have remounted new VQ35, mounts are done for radiator, oil coolers. Strengthened floorpan under fuel tank and around torsion housing. New dash is started.

New front arms didnt fit, but are now modified and shock mounts etc done (20" wheel travel). Note the extra length compared to original (blue) arm!

Cut out uneccessary brackets etc and ground back.
Should be ready for powdercoaters by the end of the week.

Who needs powdercoat when you can have a genuine metalflake finish?

progress a bit slow, but heres some pics.

Powdercoat looks awesome, pictures dont do it justice, but the metalflake/clear effect is unreal.

Finally Finished, well good enough to try and run Milbrodale.

Did about 20km testing last sunday, new front suspension feels good. VQ35 is a bit disappointing, but may be due to too higher gearing, or the torque curve doesnt like the auto box? But it doesnt overheat at least!

Just hoping for a finish this weekend?
