But, who makes the rules when my car is 'possibly legal' on the hip bar rule, but just in case I have added another hip rail, and am also putting in a second cross brace in the main hoop, just because the CAMs manual is so indecisive (and I will NOT risk an annual inspector with different interpretations), yet a buggy with such large window openings and no windscreen crossbrace is racing next weekend?
i saw that pic and was more worried about the head clearance and position of the bar over his head and how effective it would be in the event of an accident.
This car has definitely had the required bar work added to comply with the new rules. this picture is from 1 or 2 years ago.
Also, with the head clearance/bar position, I think the angle of the picture is deciving, I couldn't see any issue with it last weekend when I saw it running.
i dont know how we survived without these bars,we must have been losing drivers and navigators every race,hang on no we werent,oh,well they look good.
Scott....are you really there? I didn't realise you survived the over the the last 20years we have been racing.
I just cannot believe there are survivors from the old off road days.
Lucky for us they have this new 'bubble' that will protect us from the perils of our off-road racing future, that way we can tell our grandkids of the day where there was this accelerator pedal thing, with no restriction, if the harder you pressed it, the faster you could go................but that was before the walking pace limit that CAMS have now applied!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, grandkids, we also had these 'bump' things, and we actually got our wheels off the ground, (something like an aeroplane does), But, CAMS realised this was dangerous, as a university once did a study (at great cost to our government) and found that when your front wheels are not touching terra-firma, that traction could not be achieved to reach the desired result for direction, therefore that gave a possibility of an undesirable effect, whereby there was a chance of hitting an immoveable object, causing damage to occupants of the said vehicle, that had not achieved australian standards. WE then recieved attention from the 'green' movement, suggesting that the immoveable object (damaged tree), has now contributed to?????????????? causing climate change,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, SOOOOOOO, now we only get to race100% ethanol fueled V8 supercars, supported by the licence holders of the other disciplines that get recycled paper licences, and a CAMs sticker with only one colour to save the environment!

Gday Trekka, good to hear from you again. I am glad to know of the required bar work. My point was an example only, this car has run for years, alongside the owners other car. Guess what.................nobody has had any injuries from what is apparently unsafe,either car!
I guess like anything though, if regulations aren't developed over time to bring things up to a minimum standard then everyone would be still racing around with no helmets or seat belts, as was the case back in the 50's and 60's in motor racing. Many racers back then argued against seat belts being compulsory, yet would you go racing now without belts and feel safe? Sure, many cars have raced for years without having any problems before this new regulation was introduced, and no doubt it can be an inconvenience to have to install the new bars, but is it really that big of a problem? A lot of people don't mind spending some extra money or time on their cars to fit a better motor, bigger shocks, etc, surely it can't be that bad to spend a fraction of that cost and time on some steel bar to add even just a small percentage of extra safety to their car?
personally i think my car is much stronger,being small pipe work from the ninetys,i just dont understand all the who har about the older cars saying how unsafe they are,i rolled mine several times and never felt like it was unsafe to jump back in,im fine with advancing with the times,just dont get carried away about saving the world,when its working fine,we dont need too loose any more fossils
