By the look of your avatar, you would be happy to sleep anywhere Blacky! But I do agree (even though Kempsey wont affect me), camping is a very important part of off-road events, a lot of people decide what race they will do accordingly!
Why is there no camping ' and how fare is the accommodation from the track why are we expected to drive 400 k race 150 and then pack up and move why make thing hard
Before anyone goes off half cocked, consider that the organisers must have a good reason to stop camping at Dondingalong for the Wittitrin 300. I'm sure they didn't do it just to piss people off. The race track is only about 15 mins outside the Kempsey township and there are plenty of places to camp in town. I believe that the showground has camping for only $10 a night. Don't get sidetracked on this, find a place to camp and come to Kempsey for 300k of racing. You gotta love that.
I dont think anyone is going off 'half cocked' and the organisers probably do have a good reason for changing the set up and people would like to know why. Maybe its something we can do something about. The question was asked about camping at Wittitrin or Dondingalong (we normally camp there) and the statement was made that its a pain in the arse to have to set up and pack up each day especially when you camp in the trailer you bring the buggy in.

Camping at Wittitrin has never been available due to Council regulation and the Dondingalong situation may have something to do with the behaviour of some people who previously camped there. Sad but true, so the problem was caused by some of our own and there would not be this situation if people were better behaved on other peoples property. Sadly Brett it's a case of a few making it difficult for everyone else.
Unfortunately you are right Steve, a few bad eggs spoil the carton. I do remember some late arrivals last year up all night with loud music and even louder voices. Its a shame as we have enjoyed the Brookers hospitality (and had their dog over for breakfast) for years now and you couldnt get better hosts. Especially having hot showers and flushing toilets.

That is terrible if that is the case! I hope those people who thought they had the right to cause trouble at the campsite, now realise what they have done to everyone elses right to a family camp at an off-road event? All we can hope is that those type of people dont cause trouble at any of the other camping style events.
Why punish the majority for the misbehaviour of the minority. doesnt it make sense to just ban those who cause a problem, and not ban everybody when the next event comes up???

If the area is private property then perhaps the off road community should be greatful, & I'm sure they are, for the years of hospitality. Land owners believe it or not can make their own rules & have every right to invite whoever they like onto their land & likewise close their gate when the want. I'm certain that publically suggesting that they may be gutless won't convince them to invite us back.
Lets get back to the original question: who has somewhere to stay or where is everyone staying that usually camps at Dondingalong ? Some enterprising property owner out that way could be making a few bucks that weekend.

Why you should think the off road community is not grateful is beyond me. Nobody would dare think that the land holders should not have the right to make their own decisions on their own property. I know i have the utmost respect for land holders who let us tear their properties apart, in the pursuit of our happiness. I would be the first to do anything to make land holders happy to have us there. Maybe if you had the same view as i have, the land holder would still have us there.

Maybe if you had the same view as i have, the land holder would still have us there. Get a grip pal. (feral off road)
The thing is, we all do have a similar view, thats whats great about off-road....unfortunately feral, your keyboard does not show your true intent, and some of us mis-interpret, I dont know you personally, but some of your posts can be also be mis-interpreted. I think your intent is good, but please put a bit more thought into the wording of your posts. Your last post was well done, except for the 'get a grip part'!
Anyway, is there an alternative venue for camping?
There seems to be some confusion... Im pretty sure Feral isnt calling the land holders gutless. Im sure he would be the first to stand up for what they wanted and expected. It seems to me the organisers are the ones who should hang their heads. They should be laying down the law of what is expected and enforcing it. There have been a few races ive been to where the curfew has been ignored and then almost made a joke of the next morning at briefing. If the land holders cant get the organisers to pull rank, then they have no other choice.

Jonsey i understand what your saying. Im not the best at wording what i think. I hope there is somewhere for us all to camp and have a good yarn about racing.

To the best of my knowledge there is no regulation that states that an event organiser must provide free camping for all competitors. For some it is possible and for others it is not. At Kempsey there are plenty of options for cheap accomodation. Let your fingers do the walking not the talking. One cant always get everything that one wants. If everyone who stayed at Dondingalong had the same respect for the land owners and residents as most of us do this situation would not have occured. I believe that camping at Dondingalong may be available for the Dondingalong round of the NSW Championship so they havent shut the door completely but depending on peoples behaviour that may change in the future. Remember you are all responsible for your own actions and it is a sad fact of life that the disrespectful few can stuff it up for the majority. Instead of focussing on the land owners, look at those who are the cause of the problem. If you want to have a camp and a good yarn about racing why not stay at the Kempsey Showground. Its cheap and Im it sure could accomodate many competitors. Just think if a large number of competitors and their race cars stayed at the Showground it may go some way to promote the event to the locals. Those of you who were at "Big Kempsey" during th 80s and 90s will know what im talking about. There used to be a real buzz in town on race weekend. Turn a negative into a positive and just enjoy your motor sport.
The Scotts Hydraulic Services Wittitrin 300 is going to be a great event
Be sure to check the Kempsey Macleay Off Road Club website at www.kempseyoffroadracing.net for regular updates leading up to the race (just added info on the first 3 entries + three photos from out at Wittitrin..).
Can only agree with you Steve we have stayed in town plenty of times. Might be a problem with a campfire at the showground though. And i really don't know what all the fuss is about there are plenty of motels and caravan parks at Kempsey.
well i don't simpson i lot of people do got racing with a bugget and this put more strain on it buy not letting people camp this is a bad move by this club. offroading is not just about the racing its about the people and familys you meet by camping. if there are people who are causing trouble us refuse there entry.
Swan you might be right about the twenty odd bucks for the caravan park but were talking about one event. So if you don't like what has happened then fix it. Get the Kempsey club to tell us what or who are the problem. If it is any of our business?
And if no one turns up to the race apart from locals then that will send a message. but you know what i didn't create the problem and neither did you and were not going....... are we? And what about the National events were there is no camping at the track SO ON SO ON SO --------------------
Are you not going to go to Warialda because there is no camping at the track and yes i did think of all this before i posted my comment SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pity you guys arent going to Wittitrin. I think it will be the longest event in NSW this year. I dont think it would be appropriate to name names here. We dont want a witch hunt. If they read the forum Im sure they know who they are and I hope they will curb their behaviour in future. Maybe next time someone sees inappropriate behaviour in the camping area at an event they will have a quiet word to them.
i am comming down from qld for this event and making a long weekend of it, am going deep sea fishing at sth west rocks on friday , then racing sat and sunday, have booked a house at sth west rocks costing $ 300.00 for 3 nights for 8 people, only $12.50 per person per night.
