What class and what sort of $$$'s would you consider to be the entry level of off road racing.
I have raced 4x4 and rally before and have the skills to build a vehicle but unsure of what direction I would like to chase.
I don't have the budget that I once had for race cars so for me it would best bang for buck, with the ideal fit being something that I can run in condo and finke down the track.
class 5 is always good or class 7 these are the production 2wd and production 4wd. You can start with a std hilux, navara, pajero, jeep etc and put a cage in it and with a few mods you a ready to race. you can then spend as you see fit to suit the way you race.
Otherwise there is a variety of buggy classes starting with your sportsman 1300cc and up from there.
check out the for sale section also, might be something there that catches your eye
Ive had a ball running in production 4wd then a change to performance 2wd on a very small budget. you could build a good strong car from a ute, then improve on it as you go along.
I could also have something you could be interested in, give me a call sometime A/H on 0411051489 and have a chat.
Bevan is spot on the money. Start simple and build as you have the money. I run a patrol in class 8. Only as it already had the v8 conversion when i bought it. To get mine to my first event cost me about 4-5k total. Thats about as cheap as you will probably get. I was lucky my cage was already built and only had to be certified. I also have done just about everything myself. If i could not do it...i taught myself. My budget is pretty small!, but the thrill of getting out there and having a go is why we do it!!!
Go to some events to get some ideas. This years Milbrodale mountain classic is in August and will be a great event to start! there should be a heap of tin tops plus cheaper buggies to have a look and give you some thoughts!!
