So do i. If you cant drive around someone, then maybe you should consider bumper cars for a sport. My navigator is my girlfriend and if for any reason she was hurt coz someone hit me, i too would take my concerns to the event officials for resolution Personally i think Kelvins idea is a good one. You should give the marshalls more credit than you do, im sure they can work out whats going on. they can certainly work out which is the faster car. In the case of two cars starting together, the car infront doesnt have to get out of the way. But some still do, its just the arogant ones that dont. In my experience, and short one at that, its been people who have been in this game the longest who wont move over.

RAMMING IS NOT ON. WHAT I AM SAYING GIVE THEM A RUB TO SAY I AM HERE WHICH THAY KNOW THAT YOU ARE THERE YOU CAN SEE CARS COMING WELL I CAN AND MOST PEOPLE CAN.
their is no excuse for holding someone up,we are all on the same track with the same rules, if you get "rubbed" they are that close you should have moved earlier, most time people get hit its because of the speed difference, its hard to judge what the car in front is going to do,so it is up to you to keep a good look behind you and get out of the road before they are close enough to"RUB you" , its not rocket science, dont no why this topic is still going, turn your frigging heads
I do know that at times it is hard to see behind you, i have been there and done that, I used to look behind me at every corner to see what was catching. We also used radio contact for our crew to tell us if anything was getting close to watch out for.
Its simple, If you do see a faster car catching, you all know who is faster than you, move over as soon as it is safe to do so.
If you feel you have been unjustly tapped by a car you havent moved for (wether you seen them coming or not) go to the event officials and do something about it that will count.
Threats of violence do not stop the serial shunters as many of you will have noticed. but maybe if there are enough official reports the powers above could look into something along the lines mentioned previously of recovery points having flags.
now please constructive comments on this issue only as I feel it can do with further discussion, but no threats.
I feel "serial shunters" are very rare, hardley anyone does that, but violent threats to those drivers should be served outside the forum. Those type of drivers dont usually last long in our sport anyway.I think most of us believe in Karma.
Its the deliberate holding up the person behind, or not giving way appropriately that this thread is about, and Feral was somewhat right when he said the experienced off-roaders can be the worst!
Thats why I say it is another form of 'cheating', and should be delt with with a heavier penalty....then 'rubbing' would not exist.
1: being held up? I like the name and shame idea, put the video up on youtube showing you get held up, put the link up here then we should all bag the crap out of them. It'll be a while before they do it again. Self policing at its best! I also the 'look behind you flag' idea, even if its only at the start finish line to make people aware that there is a car behind them, even if its one they started along side. Not a flag to force people to pull over, just to remind them to look in the mirror.
2: is shunting ok? The rules say no and I reckon yeah... its probably not ok. Is rubbing ok? the rules say no.... but in the immortal words of Col Trickle...... :) However, what if you're caught in the dust cloud of the car in front and trying to stay close enough to stay out of the thickest part of the dust? Sometimes you may punt without meaning too.
Finally, serial shunters? Yeah, there are a couple out there with reputations of shunt first and then have a go at you later....

A SENTINEL SYSTEM as in the DAKAR. A car close to the rear of another can trigger an alarm and a flashing light inside the leading car warning of their presence. It is expensive to hire, maybe some budding electronic people could create one. QUESTION? Is it state level competitors or National level competitors being aggressive.
had looked at and spoken to the makers of the sentinel system but costs about $10k per car but iam working on a system that will work once the cars are within 50mtrs of each other. I am almost up to testing in a race setup but will look at this for later in the year cost would be about $300 per car to install. Also looked at the idea of adding a gps for race officals to see where abouts every car is on the track and also a SOS fuction..
Why do we need a warning system? I would be very surprised that anyone doesn't know there is a car behind them......its a lame excuse for arrogant people!
I agree with Jones. If you put a system in place like a light or alarm the person will say that the did not see or hear it. How do you prove that they heard it, also the costs of our sport are starting to put the lower budget racers(our grass root people) out of the sport. If you are held up for a long period of time then report the offender to the officials, just the same as if you were ramed by someone. I recollet years ago a competitor lodged a complaint about ramming with the back of his buggy was pushed in, the offender(rammer) was disqualified.
I can see three options here. Option One use your radio and notify race officials that you are being held up and they can notify marshals around the track to wave the blue flag or wave the flag at the start finish line, if the offender does not yield by the next marshal point, they are penalised after the event or heat or even disquallified if a serial offender. Option Two is the complaint process after the heat.
Sarcastic Option is to ensure the navigators seat is facing rearward to ensure that the faster vehicle is identified sooner and allowed to proceed uninterupted. The next rule change will be that all single seaters are to have rearward facing cameras. How many single seaters are the offenders (blockers) not many if any.
naa, spending more money isnt the answer. Mirrors are in the car for a reason. And if its arrogance (Oh! that faster car caught me... I better go faster!) then the driver deserves either a punch in the face or public ridule. Perhaps a good tar and feathering?

I have navigated for many different people over the years and I have always found that so long as the following car has a bright forward facing light I had no trouble seeing them. I of course had no idea who it was because all I could see was a bright dot jumping around in the rear view mirror. It didn't matter who it was, they had caught us so they were quicker - we moved over to let them through. Some cars that we had caught though didn't either watch their mirrors or were, as above, arrogant.
