PIKES PEAK

Did you know that Pikes Peak is now, as of last week, fully sealed from bottom to top? We only found out on Sunday as we were being shuttled up for our high speed decent run. What a buzz, $85 per head to be kitted out with whatever warm stuff required & a pretty good quality mountain bike & Daneen, the boys & I were in the second ever group to decend by bike on full tarmac, there's a van out front & one in the rear to stop cars interferring & everyone knows speed limits don't apply to bikes. Once on the way the group sorts itself out & those of us with some weight, for gravity to do it's worst, work towards the front, it's a lot of very fast sections (about 10 or so stops on the way down to let the group stay together) The guides are also able to point out sections & their speeds from previous uphill auto events (mindblowing) Once at the bottom we have travelled about 21 miles & 7000ft vertically & only two casualties, oddly enough both of the guides sons, they both lost a lot of bark & were very lucky no cars were coming the other way but they were OK. If you ever go to Colorado Springs we seriously recommend the experience.
