The aorc.com.au site shows the calendar for 2012 but still has points from part way (after Baroota 22-7-11) through 2011. It spent the entire 2011 season behind the 8 ball for info.

To say nothing of the two australian teams competing in the US last weekend is not supporting the teams that support the championship and borderline negligent to the AORC - they are your customers.  Videos on outerboundsracing facebook site with australian flags hanging off the back of the cars in competiton would be pretty good youtube links to start with.

I dont get it. We are not just on a different page we are writing a different book.  I wish the AORC well and cannot devote any more attention to this.  I am off to help run the best state level race that WA has ever seen.  We invite any interstate teams to come at Easter and have a blast.  We will be hitting the airwaves with some news spots over the next week or so.

If the Aussie rally blokes, or the V8 supercar teams competed overseas, then things would be on national TV (not sbs btw), what the hell is going on?
The effort that some people have done overseas IS important, why is there no coverage.....oh, thats right, a private internet site has THE up to date info......and an Australian recognised financially supported (internet site) organisation has absolutely NOTHING! (that would be CAMs BTW, just in case some of the representatives take notice without realising who I am referring to?)
Why do we bother?

It seems things are getting sorted with the appointment of Paul Taylor to the ORRInc board.

also from the AORCOM minutes from february which I somehow missed until today...

 3.2 ORRInc Report
Mr Vandenberg provided the following report:
Following are the key action items targeted for completion by ORRinc in 2012. Further explanation of these can be provided by Lawrence, time permitting at the AORCom meeting.
The items in no particular order are:
· Face to face meeting with all 2012 AORC organisers and future prospective organiser
· Complete TV agreement with producers and event organisers
· Merchandise agreement
· Randall Graphics agreement for media releases
· Website maintenance
· You tube footage/sponsor
· Sponsor for the Championship
The face to face meeting with organisers is anticipated to include event organisers from 2012 and potential organisers for 2013 and beyond, to be held, ideally in March. The meeting would involve members of ORRinc and event organisers (current and prospective) determining, with a
facilitator, the agreement by which promotion of the championship would occur in future years.
The aim is that all prospective event organisers would agree on championship promotion before expressions of interest are called in 2012. This would enable a clear delineation of activities between AORCom and ORRinc which needs to exist.
At the meeting, Mr Svenson confirmed that a Teleconference between 2012 AORC Organisers and ORRInc would take place to discuss television broadcast opportunities for the championship and request input on how the Organisers would like to approach the matter.
It is envisaged that a database is formed from CAMS to all Off Road clubs in Australia, calling for Expressions of Interest for rounds of the AORC for 2013. More work is to be done on finalising how the process for selecting rounds of the AORC moving forward.
ACTION: Mr Roder to provide new commissioners Matt Martin and Hugh Piercy a copy of the existing ORRInc agreements that were sent to Organisers.

So it appears that just about every concern raised here should be looked at which is excellent.

I've read a few people asking if Finke would survive without cars. 550 bikes have entered at $580 and under 100 cars last year at $790 for 2011 compared to 550 bikes at $580 and under 35 cars at $790 for 2012. Finke turn away hundreds of riders to accommodate cars.

Cars need Finke more than Finke needs cars.

That is a shame, sorry to hear that!
But does that mean the finke committee would be happy to get rid of cars, or that they would be keen to retain/advance with the Aorc to boost numbers again?
To me , this means cars may not need fink? Although I hope this is not the case?
Or, is your opinion to get rid of cars to allow more bike entries? Sorry if I misunderstood!

It has never been the intention of the Finke Committee to get rid of the cars, Jones Off Road. They are a dynamic and integral part of the event. The decision to withdraw the EOI last year was a hard, reluctant decision that the committee felt that they had to make to protect their major sponsors. It is hoped that there is a solution to the problems that were faced in 2011, not only for Finke Desert Race, but to protect all events and their sponsors.

I reread that and realized I typed it like English was a third language. I was responding to some comments from a lot earlier in the thread which were asking if Finke would survive without cars. I was attempting to show that the majority of entry revenue comes from bikes and could potentially be increased without cars due to the riders waiting list. Cars are part of the Finke culture now but the race would continue without them just as it started without them.

Cool, it's good to hear.
I think finke is an iconic race in australia, and should continue to involve cars if possible. I hope the future is brighter for all involved!

ORRinc has the power to do something to really benefit the sport: give up and GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!
Or just hand over the reins to this bloke.

Patrol842 - Interesting to see that the Central West Regional Manager from CAMS, Aaron Yeak, made the effort to fly to Alice Springs to meet with the Wolf Pack crew. As did members of the Western Desert Racers. There are some really proactive people out there pushing for Off Road Racing. Good on them.

Very good to see involvement from international competitors at two national status off road races on the weekend. A Pity the resources could not be put into races on different weekends but that is old news. It was fantastic to see the Wolf pack finish the event and whet their appetite for more. Western Desert Racers had five committee members -along with others, there to help, exchange ideas and welcome the Wolf Pack to Australia. It was great to meet them and see them enjoying the racing which is what it is all about if we want more exposure for the entire sport.
