Pretty sure that Glen Ingram had a Funco, with a VW motor. Was cutting edge for its time, but when I saw it probably 11 or 12 years ago, maybe more, it looked ancient technology-wise. Still in great condition though..
Personally, I love the ex Mark Burrows Cougar. Much newer than many cars mentioned here, but still the best looking buggy I have seen when he still raced it.
Kieth Poole did start off in a southern cross. Then he started building his own cars, the scorpions. I think Tom Poots car was an American frame but not a Funco. It was very flash for its time, it had hilborn injection on it. I'm pretty sure he ended up been part of the Denver car care products team. Glenn Ingram did have a Funco, it had an autocraft VW engine in it. Very neat, & for its time, a very big dollar car.
My first introduction to off road was 40 years ago as a boy i spotted a magazine in a newsagent with a buggy in action of Tom Poots i was hooked i must have looked at it for hours because i had no money to buy a copy . Does anyone have any photos of his cars .
Could have been Bushdriver i am not even sure how long ago it was but seems like a life time ago now. I built my first buggy when i was Nineteen out of an old beetle floor pan and some water pipe the start of the obsession.
There was bushdriver & off road Australia mags in those days. Both were 4x4 mags that also covered off road racing. In those days if you were just a fan of the sport, the mags were the only way of finding out who won the races. I can remember as a kid going to the newsagent up the road every day waiting to find out who won events like Hattah probably two months after the race. Something else funny about those days we raced "loops" of a course, not "laps".

I still have the story and photos out of the Bushdriver mag of Tom Poots Sore special and the Funco

Tom poots had a southern cross MK2. Then the SORE buggy from SA. That was the denver sponsored buggy then the funco which was Glen Ingrams and Glen bought the SORE BUGGY
Another name I was thinking of today that had a unique car, Chuck Willcox. It was I think a southern cross but it had a huge wing on the back of it. It was the cause of "aerofoils" been put into our regs.

That was Barry Coopers FC Holden Taxi. It was originally a well known Rallycross car from Catalina Park. Originally owned by Tom Rabold from Orange then Barry Cooper bought it and was very successful in Rallycross. When Rallycross died Barry took it Off Roading. Ran a mid mounted 202 with triples and in its final form had the diff out of Bob Stansfields OME Ute in it as seen in the picture. Barry moved to Kempsey and retired from racing. I think he still lives there. The FC was retired with terminal rustosis. A nice piece of NSW history though.
