I run outboards, and they are a real pain with maintenance, and very expensive bearings etc. One of the reasons my car is still not going is because I dread servicing mine (worse than cv joints). Not only that, but I have been let down by a summers bros hub in the past, and the leather inner dust boot does not provide very good bearing protection. They should be serviced every race, especially if you have water near them either while racing or washing the car. Not sure how good the alternatives are, but I have been thinking of converting to midboards or similar.
I have Summers Bros Floaters and whilst they have not let me down they are high maintenance. You get pad knock when they get hot and you need to run a residual line pressure valve for the brakes. The Kreger Outboards look very good, are sealed and low maintenance. I also like their lock nut.
If I was buiding new arms I would put midboards on.
what about micro stub hubs ? fully sealed bearing housing's at a decent price , easy access to cv's , you can replace a wheel end CV on the track unlike mid board hubs available for 930 and 934 CV's

were we're goin we dont need roads.
it's not the speed of life that scares me, it's the sudden stop at the end ,
I bought the Tatum mid boards as they are good value for money and i have seen them give good service in other cars in our club. The tatum motorsport site is worth a look http://www.tatummotorsports.com/
John Towers makes the best out board hubs I have seen , big enough for 934cv joints , wheel bearings are sealed no mater how wet the conditions get , very little maintance required,
