tyres what do you run and what are your thoughts.?

well i due for new tyres. and looking at changine mainly due to cant get them any more. and i have been looking at  yokohama geolander mt's

in 31x10.5r15 is the size i will be using. for the rear tyres. and front was thnking

they possibly the geolander a/t-s for steer tyres, but not sure if i can get narrow enough. as i think 195 is a little wide on the front..

but wanted others opinions .

I use mickey thompson mtz's 31" on the rear and mickey thompson baja pro, steer tyres, both are 15" rims.3 races still look new and no damage. But i have used standard light truck tyre grooved for the front and they also got the job done well, cheaper too.

i think i will run the yokohama mt's on the rear, as i like the directional pattern, helps maintain a straight line as well, and also like side wall tread for better grip sideways. now just need to find a decent steer tyre, with good braking and steering.

different type of car, but same size tyre 31x10.5 r15.
It could be chance but Cooper STT seemed to get a hell of a lot more punctures than Mickey Thompson MTZ. Grip was similar enough to run one of each with similar wear on the front (4x4) without any noticable difference in handling.
Coopers have some rips between the blocks right down to the belting, but somehow seem to keep the corners on the tread blocks longer.
Mickeys the tread blocks round off more rapidly. After some use on the race car the tyres go on the road car, the coopers have substantially more grip on the road.
Both of them need a fair bit of speed on to be self cleaning of mud so it can get messy in very slow muddy corners.

Now I have slightly bigger Procomps on 16 inch rims, done 1 and a half races on them with additional horsepower and they are substantially more resistant to cuts and tears and still have reasonable shape to the leading edge of the tread blocks. Havent hit any slow muddy corners yet. Still dialling in the right pressure to run in them. So far I feel they are worth the extra money.

Just to put my two cents in...i am a firm believer in using BF Goodrich tyres (although i have heard that quality can vary according to what country they are manufactured in).

A question though, what is better, mud terrains or all terrains, or should you select according to track conditions?

I have run all terrains in the belief that they would be kinder to a Kombi gearbox but others have told me that mud terrains would actually be less damaging to the box?

Thoughts anybody?
