Griffith Entries?

The upcoming NSW state round at Griffith has not received many entries. The Griffith committee are a little nervous that we may not receive enough entries to run the event? If you are intending to race, but are sending in your entry on the deadline, can you please post your intentions here, or phone Matt Ryan on 0407718611. There is a chance that we might need to postpone if enough entries are not received.

I spoke to Matt tonight, sounds like we should make 20 entries.....so should go ahead?
Still a bit disappointing for a state round?
Going to a working bee Saturday, so will keep everyone posted.
Apparently spectating area is good, and dust should not be a problem!

Went to a track working bee today, looks to be an excellent track. Not too wet or too dry, some fairly tight and rough stuff for a griffith track, but still some nice open roads and fire breaks. Heaps of virgin bush tracks too. Prologue is 10km long, and the main track 33km.
If you intend to reconnaisance in your road car, be warned that there is a lot of scrub that may scratch your car. I would suggest to use the race car.
The pits and spectator area are good, and the camping area at Goolgowie looks to be a great spot.
If you are travelling from the east coast, then you really dont need to go go near Griffith, so I suggest if you need supplies then get them by either Temora or West Wyalong, as only minimal facilities are available after that. Especially if you are travelling at night! Watch for kangaroos too, as I hit one tonight on the way home.
If you are having trouble with accomodation, you could look at Rankin Springs, its about 30km from the track, Goolgowie is 20km.
Only 6 more sleeps, see you there!

Grant Walker tells me he is going, who else is going to turn up. Why are you leaving it so late to enter.
It is this type of thing that makes it almost impossible for event organisers to organise programs, catering, ect, ect.
Just my thoughts, maybe I shouldn't put my thoughts out there?

26 Entries as of this evening not quite as many as we had hoped but new track will be excellent and gives us something to build on for the future to create more interest.

I reckon its a bit disapointing that victorian entries nearly equal NSW!
It's meant to be our state round?
Maybe we should look at a 'state of origin' stand alone type event....because nsw WAS the origin of off-road! l.o.l. (lets see if that gets everyone interested?)

I reckon everyone should put their thoughts out there, might make others think?  'Right or wrong'

Well to start with 8 rounds is way to many for state racing! And for most racers Griffith is along way from home so the majority of them will take the race of their calendar and base their races to those nearby so that's why Griffith hasn't got many nsw competitors because 8 rds is too many and for those that are going there obviously close by or chasing nsw points! Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

I think you are dead right Toby. Too many rounds in the NSW Championship. I think 5 maybe 6 tops is more than enough and would make the participation rate higher.

I agree toby, 8 rounds is alot. Does however mix it up for the point scores as it is unlikely many people will do all 8. Tough job for the guys on the state panel though as everybody / club wants a round in there backyard. If you had less rounds do you do it similar to nationals and name dates based around the national series and let clubs apply. Who misses out? Certainly higher participation rates  is better for club budgets.

It's very hard for everyone but I'm sure they could work something better out for everyone involved in events like Griffith which has received a low field! Is thus a suggestion! - 5 rounds a year Where Dondingalong and colo share a two year cycle and Crookwell and Griffith share! Y not? That way Events will have a much larger entry list and this makes it easier for events to continue running! Even giving Griffith a long course could attract more numbers down south!!

Good to get some feedback Toby,

You are assuming that if any of these venues are not given a round, they won't run an event each year. Maybe there is more to this.

Anybody who wants to visit a NSW Off Road Panel meeting should email me (The Chairman)   maurie.fuller@skymesh.com.au

Cheers

Maurie

yer only a suggestion Maurie, but then it would be hard on events like Dondingalong whod miss out, so i dont think there is an easy solution! But too 95% of racers 8 rounds is too many!

My suggestion would be to have a NSW Long Course Series comprising Wittitrin, Warialda, Milbrodale and Griffith. A NSW Short Course Series comprising Colo, Dondingalong, Crookwell and Nabiac. A NSW Off Road Championship comprising 5 rounds on an annual rotation.

No event drops out for more than 1 year in a row and those events that arent part of the NSW Championship will at least have a NSW Long or Short Course Series to be part of to attract sponsors and competitors. It may even give the NSW Panel a better chance to promote the Short and Long Course Series'.

Competitors who cant afford or are unable to attempt the whole Championship will be able to possibly run a full Series. This plan should at least see a greater participation rate at the 5 NSW Championship rounds and the 2 Series' a chance to promote themselves.

There may be some pain to the clubs that drop out of the Championship each year but as it would be once every couple of years the pain may not be too great and would be better for the Championship as a whole. The NSW Short Course Series could be formed out of the existing Tri-series after all it was the Tri-series that formed the basis for the NSW Championship in the first place.

I cant see too many downsides to this plan other than self interest groups within the clubs may fight to lose their round of the Championship. Sometimes you've got to look at the bigger picture. I would be interested to see what others think of this plan.

Souns good steve, so youd have the long course, short course and a NSW Championship is that right!

Yes. The main game with highest prestige is the NSW Championship with 2 specialised NSW Series for long and short course under that. Components of the 2 Series make up the NSW Championship which changes each year moving the Championship around NSW.
