Mid mounted buggy

Morning all, Being new comer to the sport i have purchased my first buggy. With need of plenty of tlc it will be running soon i hope. I was thinking of changing the engine configuration to mid mount, has any body done this before or knows pros and or cons for doing this.

Thanks

Aaron

Problem is you will need a gearbox that you can flip the crownwheel. Or you can use an engine that runs backwards like a honda.

What i was thinking of doing was running a front wheel drive subaru box out of an early impreza. that way i didnt need to flip anything,

Hey Maverick, is the buggy you bought running? If so I would suggest to try it in its original design and maybe modify later.
Unfortunatly an impreza gearbox will not be strong enough for off-road, I have seen it done before. The biggest cost will always be your gearbox, and virtually nothing road car designed can handle it!

Sadly no, if it was running i would be racing it. I bought in peaces, with idea to do the hip rail mod and main hoop cross bar, to find alot worse then i origanly thought. Maybe this time around i should build back to its former glory. And if im keen on the sport maybe start building one from scratch.

Thanks for the honesty.

Aaron

I reckon that would be a good move!
Maybe go sportsman or 1650 with a kombi box for motivation, then look at other options later?
Plenty of us have been in your situation, and if you make the right decisions, then you will love this sport....welcome to the fun!

A little while ago there was a Honda V-Tec engine and gearbox set up in the back of a buggy in the Mildura area that worked quite well al be it in Sportsman Buggy, it looked strange compared to traditional buggies but it went well.
