I'm not going to be any help, but I'm curious as to why? Is it weight balance?

Yes it is all about balance both static and dynamic amongst other design options to improve traction and handling

I've a mid engine Jimco. With big power you can transfer weight rearward to get traction. In mud however you have no traction to push the weight rearward and as such can't push weight rearward over the rear wheels to again increase traction.
In terms of weight transfer, large fore aft polar moments are fantastic for stability during jumps and make the vehicle more stable at speed. However large polar moments also make the car slower to turn in.
As such I'd expect a middy to be quicker in tight courses, a rear to be quicker in rough courses.
I've not noticed the middy slower in the rough, however by placing something as simple as a spare on the rear the car is considerably smoother on anything rough.

Tracks are getting tighter and slower gatton for example
It is my intent to build a buggy that will suit this type of track.

furthermore i was personaly disgusted with the comments by a select few of competitors all well known within our sport that complained that the track was too tight on the saturday. What would be thier response to some one with a smaller buggy that commented that finke was too fast!!!

It is clear to me that big yank tank buggies are designed and built for flat out desert racing and to think that the tracks should be setout to accomodate (favour) this type of machinery is morbid thinking that will spell the death of the sport in Aus

Smaller parcels of land yield tighter tracks

Variety is the spice of life and makes the sport interesting

On the saturday at gatton the talk was that the 4wd will dominate and that event the polaris vehichles may podium

That type of situation is perfect for the sport.

During 20 years of rallying it became clear that the best tracks are those that rely on driver skill not how much money you spend on the car

Tight technical track will always favour the driver with the best skill and vehicle setup and tune irrespective of cubes or power

That is my rant for the week

The intent of this post was to produce an accurate and comprehensive list of transaxle gearboxes that can flip the diff for mid engine setup.

I have read so much contradiction on the net that i thought that with the vast knowledge base out there the question could be answered

Can any of the vw boxes be flipped
Which porsche boxex can be flipped
Can any of the renault boxes be flipped

By flipped i distincly mean swapping the diff over - not turning the box up side down such as for kit cars etc

Shane, Did you race at Gatton? I was one of the guys saying that I didn't want to race the track we looked at on saturday and it wasn't because it was to tight! In my opinion it was dangerous because if something happened you wouldn't be able to get anyone in to help you, recovery were getting stuck just trying to get around and we heard over the radio they lost a car that slid of the track into the bushes for two hours so how is that safe! I like a tight track that makes you think but I can tell you this if they had used the track from Saturday myself and alot of others would have gone home because even though I spent alot of time and money to get there in my opinion it was to dangerous to race on that part of the track! With that said I have to congratulate the organizers, landowners and volunteers that gave us a great track to race on Sunday, it had a good mix of tight and open sections that made for a great days racing. They all put in a huge effort and should be given a big pat on the back.

Pretty sure none of the production gearboxes can be flipped.

First mid engine cars in Australia that I know of were the simpson Jimcos with Fortins.

Mark Burrows re engineered his Honda to make it turn thr 'right' way because you couldn't reverse the 930 porsche box.

There is no room inside a Kombi box to flip the diff over, NO WAY. It can only be done with the old Beetle tunnel transmission as in formula V or split window bus. The only way to reverse direction of a 002 or 091 box would be with custom ring & pinion.
