Hi guys, i am new to the sport and am just finishing my super 1650 buggy to compete shortly.
I plan to run the large overboots on my CV's, and have heard conflicting advice.
Someone told me i still need to still run the outer CV flange, even though my boot goes over the whole CV. This is because apparently the CV will fall apart without the outer flange.
Someone else told me i didnt need an outer flange as they are only there to hold the smalle. Boot and do nothing for the actual CV structure.
I have everything except the outer flanges and dont want to waste money on something i dont need.
Thanks in advance!
You should run either the flanges or a laser cut plate that will stop the cv balls falling out when you are at full dropout. If you get them about 3 or 4mm larger in diameter than the cv it will also stop the boots from slipping off the cv's
the reason you need a quality outer flange is to keep the grease in the joint, and like lamby said high angle or load the balls can forceout, main problem once you set up your cv"s is keeping grease in them, bit of research now will save you money and headaches later,
Use caterpillar desert gold grease it is unbelievable and cheap, also there is only one way to assemble and align cv's. Read this link http://www.outfrontmotorsports.com/cv_assembly.htm Best of luck
