Les, I use Castrol Edge Titanium 10w-60 fully synthetic in my VQ with no problems, I change it after two race meetings. comes out clean.

I use Valvoline 25W60 Race oil (Thats what is written on the bottle) on our VQ and Toyota and we change it every 750-1000km and comes out sweet. Used to use Torco and that was good too but too expensive.

i used to use castrol edge 5-30 changed it after each race it would come out black but still had good oil pressure !

than changed to ulx110 which i use in my gear box 75/140 it works great there

but the engine oil i found after one race it drops its guts ( oil pressure drops when hot ) comes out black after race

i have been told to try Mobil 1 0W-40 in the gold bottle which us about $90 for 5 lts !

Castrol Edge 5w40 in our VQ. 3 out of 4 laps at Sea Lake and its clean. No oil pressure issues.

Poison? As in bad 80s hair band? haha. I crack myself up.

Les, I strongly suspect you're chasing the symptom not the cause. Black oil can be either the oil collecting carbon deposits (which is unlikely in a well designed engine like the VQ) or more likely you are burning the oil through overtemp. Do you have an external oil cooler and do you log/view the oil temps (they can be quite radically different from the water temps in the VQ).
Oil pressure drops can be a resultant of either oil breakdown (overtemp) or sheer. Either way the oil has broken it's longer chains and the lubrication properties have dropped dramatically.
As an aside. I also use Mobil 1 which does seem to cater to overtemp issues better than other oils I've used in the past. (note it's an emotive evaluation).

Mobil 1 is a bit more expensive, but every rose has its thorn.

As redmist said I am thinking you have overheating issues, I have a heat exchange on my engine could be why my oil looks clean, I've not had a oil sample checked but it looks good when it comes out.

I use Penrite Sin 5W-60. Good protection, runs cooler and easier to start at Griffith. This means I don't have to kick start my heart.

thanks every one for there comments

when i ran the castrol oil i didnt run a cooler but when we  freshened up the motor we put a cooler on but changed oil brands

i think if we went back to castrol the oil would keep colour with the cooler

but my engine man keeps telling me to use mobil 1 ( gold bottle ) so i just got 10lt

plus a 5 lt flush oil

we see how it goes next race

i dont think the 4.2 stocker kit should be a issue !
