I still think your missing the point some of us are trying to make, we, us don't want to,can't afford to or think it's to much money to run a pro class car, pro-lite seems to work fine for those of us racing it me included, you mentioned exotic engines before, like I said my Nissan cost me$3000 dollars only no extras, the car cost me $$$$$$$ but that's my business ,my opinion is if it works or if it ain't broke Don't try and fix it.

A pro-lite section with kombi boxes and sr 20 turbos how many are still left compared to the current Pro-lite's with 3.5's ? Why bother !

No, I don't think I'm missing anything. You are happy for people to spend 200 grand on a car in your class, happy for Albins gearboxes with converters to be used, happy for someone to use an F1 engine if they wish but you think that if your class is subject to the same freedoms that exist in all other classes, that being the use of turbochargers with a 1.7 multiplication factor in place, that it will ruin your class.

Just wondering Stingray how many races have you done this year in your car?

The point we are trying to make is that most if not all the competitors in prolite are happy with the rules the way it is and it makes for close racing, at the moment there is only so much HP you can get from an N/A 3.5lt so if people want to spend 30 or 40 grand on an engine to get an extra couple of HP then they can but a standard motor still can compete as proven this year with both Simpson and Yearly getting 102 & 103 with standard motors. Now spend that much on a Turbo 2lt with a massive turbo and boost and a standard motor won't compete!

The second thing I'm saying is you are only looking at one state not the whole sport. There are some very fast 2lt turbo cars around Australia that still are competitive in pro class in there state. A lot of state running cars aren't running expensive engines in prolite they are running stock ones

What has the number of races I have or havn't done got to do with anything? We are discussing the merits of pro lite running under the same rules as every other class regarding turbos.

Prolite is a great class with close racing for the reasons posted by 2204.

In Proclass the big dollar turbo engines dominate but there is a high DNF rate due to engine failures and failure of driveline components because of the huge horsepower these engines produce.

Imagine if all the Pro Class competitors were running 6 litre V8's.
You would get highly competitive fields and probably higher finishing rates which is what we have in Prolite so why change Prolite.

Ok, so what if turbo cars were allowed but they had to have beam front ends. Still no? So must comply with 3.5 litre engine rule which would include 1.7 turbo multiplication factor but if using a turbo engine car must have a beam front end.

Several of the comments regarding the ARB series in this topic have been addressed here http://sorra.activeboard.com/t55522265/arb-series-entry-fees/ other comments that require clarification are below.

2204           How about we look at why it costs nearly $1000 to enter a national round and why at Coffs you could do all laps for cheaper when not registered for points? Imo that is why the ARB series is so good, you get to do national style tracks for around state event prices.

It baffles me how/why AORC rounds cost what they do.

I have requested information on the mechanism used for non national competitors to exceed the maximum allowance of 75% at the last 2 nationals but still waiting for an answer.

Stingray 2212 My view is that the competitors made a very clear statement with their support of the ARB series. I think it will grow even more next year & I think fields of only 30 cars at nationals will become more common. Who knows why national events are so expensive, it's very clear that the ARB event organisers see reasonable entry fees as a priority which is why their events got such good numbers. I think the slide towards the ARB series will continue because national entry fees won't come down.

We certainly hope that the ARB series will grow, all the people involved are extremely motivated, passionate and have seen the errors made by others in the past. Each event has their unique costs that need to be covered and all the events did their best to keep their entries realistic.

We are all encouraged by the hundreds of complements about the series throughout the year but we are not letting it go to our heads. The stats tell us that entries went up for Sea Lake and Griffith but remained similar for Goondiwindi and Millicent. Sea Lake were determined to make a huge celebration for their 40th race. Through good marketing and a bargain entry price they pushed entries over 120 which is a great result. Griffith has had a few quiet years and run a state event but with the exposure generated by the series had a fantastic increase in entries. If entries alone were the performance indicators we were judged on I would be a little disappointed but what about the effort of 22 competitors to get to every round, what about 4 different classes in the top 10 outright points, what about the support, security and unity provided to all of the events, what about how much fun we all had racing at great events with no BS. These were all goals the ARB Series set and achieved.

I dont think that competitors are sliding (down) to the ARB series more like rising up to a competitor friendly, exciting and fun series that has open communication with competitors, organisers, partners and providers.

Simpson as for ARB it's my understanding CAMS gave them a 1 st year deal on entry fees that will be bought into line with National entry's in 2014,
CAMS presented us with an offer for entries that we considered detrimental to the series by discouraging competitors from going to all events, we counter offered with a plan that provided CAMS with a higher income and this was accepted. We went into the meeting to plan for the future not 1 year.

Simpson National entry's were down a lot of people sent AORC a message, I hope they are listening and us the competitors are the winners.

They are listening and helping all the state panels and competitors with their planning by announcing their calendar nice and early. PS the tooth fairy is real as well.no

Pedroski The entry fees have been increased by CAMS in the ARB series to National levels. ARB will be keeping the fees the same as this year by paying the difference as sponsorship.

The ARB Series committee will continue to work through the costs but competitors should expect a small rise in entry fees with the CAMS plan. As I mentioned in other post no decision has been made yet.

wow I haven't been on the forum for a while, and I wonder why. People lets state the obvious. Prolite is just a brilliant and competitive class. As with all classes you spend what you can but the fun factor doesn't directly relate to money spent. At the end of the day we are all big kids playing with expensive toys and should only have ourselves to please. We have an awesome sport and to change rules for the sake of it is nuts. If you were starting from scratch you might go 2 4 and 6litre classes but we are not. Your never going to please everybody, that's life. As for the ARB series, we were only able to get to Sea Lake and the Pines so I can only comment on those. Just great, exactly what the sport needs and deserves. We should be very thankful to all the people involved in making it happen. Talk of Danny dominating his class, well he dominated the series so its not a matter of who didn't race. He was fast and consistent, that's it finished. Can we focus on some of the positives in the sport please.

Something I would like to know. Given that the ARB series entries were based on state event charges this year, was the overall revenue to CAMS from off road up or down for the season compared to last year.

When the deal was done with CAMS re entry fees, did they give any indication (verbal or otherwise) that it was a one year proposition?

The overall revenue per entry for the 4 ARB events was up on what it would have been without ARB. Revenue from all of off road for the year you would have to check with CAMS. My guess with underperforming AORC it will be down.

With regard to the duration of the deal we were discussing the future and there was no mention of a 1 year deal. The meeting was held after the events were cast aside and of no further use to ORRInc (CAMS) so the arrangement was of little consequence but history tells us that they made some very poor decisions.

These events are all extremely popular on the calendar and as a competitor it is fantastic that ARB and the events were able to put together this series. All the events and partners are now planning and looking forward to a bright future.

to bring this thread back on track (yet another on changing classes):

From a personal point of view - I love prolite as it is, don't change it!
From a sport point of view - everyone else loves prolite as it is. don't change it!

Hey Danny Brown is one hell of a cool dude - and I rate his driving - BUT

Let's be serious with this dominating thing in ARB Series.... how can he stand ontop of the podium come the end of the season verse a guy that turned up to all 4 rounds - won 3 outright - and had a motor failure at the last one...
You can say what you want about the points rewarding consistency - but that makes no sense to me...

So I can absolutely dominate every race - and one tiny failure causes me to lose the series... it's not like DB was standing on the podium beside Owen every race either...

I love the ARB series and I think they are doing great work.

The events that we made it to were well run and professional and were very enjoyable.
At Goondiwindi Event Sponsors were throwing out all sorts of cool merch and gear to the crowds/kids and I believe that is GREAT in breeding a next generation of racers!

I'm with the rest of the Pro-Lite racers with leaving the class alone. It isn't a budget class - but the racing is spot on at the moment and there are atleast a few teams that could take top step on any given day! 3.5NA is FAST - but a 2L turbo built right will eat it for breakfast. It might not hold together too well - but when it does it will dominate.

Hopefully we have a SHOWDOWN at Gundy!

GEDDES, GALLARD, BROWN, ROBINSON and GARTNER - That's your show right there!!
Actually - hopefully it goes down at Finke2014 - and then it can be a rematch at Gundy!

DB - bring your A game!

leave the class's the way it is, people think it is only hp that wins races. you must be able to drive as well, and not crash and be reliable.

If it isn't a budget class why shouldn't it be subjected to the same rules as every other class?

It's sport, a football team can win every game all year and still loose the grand final, you can have the fastest sprinters in the word but if the last runner in a relay race drops the baton they loose, you can lead every lap of Bathurst and crash on the last corner and loose, you could be the quickest to Finke and back but break down 10k from the finish line and loose, I personally believe that to win a series the first criteria would be that you have to finish every race, then be the fastest competitor that finished all the races, but that's just what I think. And well done Danny Brown!

Ill be the first to say I didnt "dominate" the series this year, that was definitely done by Glen (something I hope to change this year!). Its important to reward consistency and as with the AORC points this year if Shannon hadn't finished a round he wouldnt have been standing on the top of the podium either. Maybe a few tweaks to the points system in the ARB series are necessary to reward a round win with a larger points buffer to 2nd and 3rd. All suggestions are welcome and if you would like to email them through to arboffroad@offroadracing.com.au they will be taken on board and brought up an discussed at our next face to face meeting at the end of the month.

agree with cobra 236, state running 2 litre *without a turbo* keeping up with a 6 litre pro class at Warialda.
suggestions say driver didn't care if won prolite title. just enjoyed racing with other competitors
same situation as simpson stock as a rock engine
no changes needed to class/classes

Back to my original question as another turbo powered buggy is advertised in www.offroadracing.com.au as a prolite.
Not sure who runs the site but maybe if anyone knows who then a quiet word might save a lot of agro if someone new to the sport buys a turbo powered prolite.
I am not trying to cause any problems I just know it has happened in speedway with incorrectly advertised cars and the new owners finding out at scrutineering.

It's car 157, the guy's name is Andrew. It has a Mazda B6 (1.6) turbo engine & a beam front end & kombi gearbox. Clearly it would dominate pro light if it was allowed in.

Was two now just 157.
I will just make it clear I don't want in on the engine debate and the only reason I raised the issue is that I have seen this incorrect advertising in Speedway relating to class and State rules become very nasty.
I have emailed the website with no response, which is the only reason I put another post on.
Thanks for any help with this issue and I will now butt out.
