Power steering problem

Hi all, need some help with power steering. The problem: I turn the steering wheel an the wheels go in the other direction. If i try to correct it the ram pumps back and forward violently. It will continue to do this unless you slow the steering wheel shake by running your hand against it and increasing load. If you dont touch the steering wheel it continues all the way to full lock albeit in the opposite direction to the steering input?? Eventually it finds a happy place where it stops. To bleed i took the ram off its mount and ran it under the car free. It appeared to work fine with no load on it and even correctly varied its speed. Little steering input and it moved slowly, lots of steering and it moved quicker. The only difference is the load on it when attached to the rack. It goes mental! So far i have: bled and bled and bled some more. There are no noises, bubbles or any indication of air. The ram is installed with fittings down so i have to remove it to position fittngs up to purge air and bleed. Followed sweet procedure for bleeding as well. i have checked the hose connections are correct and i have seen this car running fine with the same set up as i am running. The pump is brand new sweet 1450 psi. Servo age is unkown, came with the car Ram is same - unknown I have a spare servo from my old car but want to know if there is any thing i should check before i open lines to swap it out and have to bleed again. i am leaning to the servo being rooted. Are they rebuildable? there's a torsion thing in tge servo that determines the steering "effort". If that breaks im thinking it may cause the chaos im currently seeing. thanks for any assistance Simon.

Never mind. Pay attention when someone tells you they removed the steering wheel to wire the dash. The wheel and shaft and pump. Crossed the hoses putting it back on....ð§all better

So for the wheels to have gone the opposite direction, does that mean that something has to have now let go in the control valve? is there a shaft between the control valve and rack or just the hydrolics ?

Yes shaft connecting to rack. Its not healthy for the control valve but i only did it twice for a few seconds each time before shutting it down. biggest mistake was the assumption nothing had changed so it must be correct. The cross over in hose was at the bulkhead not at the pump so i couldnt see it easily.
