I found discrepancies in my times, there was defininite problems in my checkpoint times ( a car that started behind me 2 mins, beat me to deep well by 4mins, without overtaking me).

my return time was approx 1 hour faster than it should be, placing me 13th outright instead of probably 27th overall.

i have emailed finke and still awaiting reply.

has anyone noticed provisional times are mostly to the minute times (no seconds)--also times are calculated to the second without tenths, leaving approx 6 vehicles with the same prologue times. (dont know how they picked the start order, but locals appeared to benefit)

i completly agree with you.

It is shocking.

We have been there for almost every year its been run(for cars) and every year there is a mistake in timing.

For example this year a quad had the fastest prologue time-- outright.

That was soon knocked on the head. But what happens to the quad rider? does he just get seeded or does he get another run??

check out the class progress reports, it is shocking the number of cars and buggies that are missed out at checkpoints, but did go through there

RE: TIMING AT FINKE IS IT RIGHT

Ringo totally agree with you big time!!!

Stuck back here in Sydney (there wasn’t enough room for me & the Ugh Boots to both go!!) I was texting & phoning Werner with the times & positions as the guys past through checks points, the results on the Finke site now don’t show it, but Jones was past Bundooma before they recorded him at Rodina ( I had his crew sitting at Stuarts Well Road House waiting till I got the updated results, because we started thinking he was broken down somewhere).

Then at one point the results had Chapman as finished at 23o/r when he had in fact DNFed.
I know the event is manned totally by volunteers - aren't they all (And all credit to everyone who does volunteer, it is a thankless and tough job) but guys get it right; these mistakes with the timing (if these are the official times could cost someone championship points!!!!!!

Is it AORCom's job to fix it?  Or merely to point out that any issues need to be sorted out by the Finke organisors?

Was there any discrepancies at Griffith?  That was a point to point race too.  How did they do it?

Sorry slow, we're just taking the p1ss.  :)

By Sunday morning prologue times included tenths. There is also a rule that whoever posts a time first gets it.

As for locals benifiting-what a load of crap.

toyotapower,

(wish mine had more toyotapower!)

i should apologise, i made my remarkes on general discussions with competitors (should know better), on closer inspection of actual placings/times etc, i found that starting orders were correct.

next time i will put in "more homework" before typing in more inaccurate "loads of crap"

the whole prologue coarse is wrong, and the timing isnt the best either, maybe the finke orgainsers should have a look at the prologue track and maybe make it define the actual race coarse

The prologue used to use the first 13 km of the track but was changed to suit the medias requirement to be ablr to follow a car in a chopper to the finish then pick up another car as it leaves rather than having to fly back to the start to film the next car.

The prologue track was moved when the start line was moved so it is only3 years old and it is improving. You can not just create a replica of the Finke track for a prologue track using machinery.Only time and traffic can do this.

TOYOTAPOWR,

not a personal attack on you. But you have the contacts to answer this.

why did the prologue track get graded a week before the event? this isnt how you replicate the actual finke track. as stated in the cams manual the prologue track MUST be a true representation of the actual race track.

Cheers.
