well have a good looked around there are 'honda 3.2 ' toyota 3.0 3.4 ' nissan 3.0 3.5 ' mitsubishi 3.0 ' subaru 3.3 ' holden 3.5 ' and mazda so there you go and if i was you go to the honda or go class 2
I think slow has pretty well answered the question. There is a whole multitude of engine options available for the new class, (exciting isn't it) and yes the question of availability was certainly considered.
i know there is many engines suitable, and we can look at the internet and get performance figures and engine codes, but start ringing around importers to see what is actually available in australia.
i have been chasing engines as time permits for 3 days, ringing vic, qld, nsw, & sa, 3.5lt izuzu-all hondas except C32A- VQ30 nissan- quad cam mitsu 3.5lt-are all next to impossible to get! (ie without spending mega dollars)
obtainable engines are 1MZ 3.0 toyota, VG30 nissan, C32A honda (under $2000 which is'nt much to choose from)
if someone has REAL contacts (importers)- who sell available suitable performance engines- instead of just ideas, could they please contact me as i am getting frustrated.
Sorry mate, Ive been on the phone with the standards (Ichi, SSS, that mob in Warwick Farm and a few others) and no joy - no-ones got that many V6's, though Ichi and SSS are ordering some in the next container - should be here in 3, 4 months or so.
Have tried contacts on OZHonda site and ToyMods for c series and camry motors and the guys on those sites cant help.
Try Franks wreckers in smithfield or similar for Rodeo/Jackaroo motors if you want one in a hurry I guess...

thanks anyway, but i have just purchased an engine (top secret 3.3ltr).
if anyone wants a VQ30 quad cam n.a. nissan (hard to get)-- SSS auto have one at a very reasonable price, if you are looking for something like this you should be quick!
Can anybody please help with any ideas on where to find naturally aspirated 3.5LTR engines?
Don't care what manafacturer, but must be inexpensive, easy to obtain, alloy block, and powerfull! (am i asking too much?)
All my enquiries so far (importers etc) have been fruitless. maybe the difficulty in obtaining engines was'nt considered with the new rules!
Have a good close look at the Honda C32A engine. The C35A is also a good option but makes slightly less peak power.
I have been involved with John towers developing these engines for a few years now.
These engines make around 180whp with our intake and extractors and good management. Have a look at Dave Catsicus(923)Phill Page(148) and Tony Felhalber(138 C35A) Other guys running these engines in what is now Open class are John Towers, Terry Rose and Michael Napeir all running turbo engines.
Power for these engines range from around 300whp to 540 flywheel for johns engine.
There are a couple of other off roaders who are currently setting up cars with the C32A engines.
John also mkes crank and cam triggers, and a distributor setup to remove the multicoils.
Contact me at p76v8@yahoo.com. I am sure you will be able to find Johns number.

Chris Hey Chris, why are the coilpacks removed?

We had problems making the factory coils work.To me the distributor was the simple answer. One igniter, one coil, one cap ,seven leads. Simple. Terry Rose used the ford 6 cylinder waste spark coil but for us the dissy was easier.
Fair enough. I had heard that the honda ign system can be a bit of a bastard to setup if you're trying make a hybrid factory/aftermarket setup.
We'll be doing the same thing with the lexus that we did with the 20valve. CDI system using bosch ignitors and coils run by EMS using the toyota sensors. Afterall, we've already got half the ign system left over from teh last car! haha!

I recently in a hast to get on the 3.5ltr engine wagon I bought a rover 3500 for its engine and noticed that they have 3528cc capacity, does this mean that I would have to go into the pro class and get flogged each race?

Wow. Just checked wiki and the austin/rover site and sure enough, the 3.5Litre engines were actually 3528cc. Weird.
There are crank grinders everywhere that could knock a mm or two off the crank and supply bearings to match though. If you can tell me the existing bore/stroke I could tell you how much would need to be removed off the crank to get it under
I suppose you could also sleeve the bore - but big$$$ and time.

with bores of 88.9mm a stroke of 70.47mm would give exactly 3.5Ltrs capacity.
Current stroke is 71.12mm so amount to be ground is:
(71.12-70.47)/2=0.325mm to be ground. of course get your crank grinder to double check the numbers. Of course this would also reduce your piston to deck height by .325mm reducing compression... I wonder if the rods in the later model rover engines were longer and may work????
Check with Steve Maher if you want ot look into that avenue, he's a bit of a P76 nut (he has an overwhelming urge to carry a 44gal drum in the boot of his car I guess... :) ) and knows a bit about them.

Thanks for the help, doesnt sound like it should be too much drama? Maybe if I get the heads decked at the same time I can recover the lost compression?
Im not an engine builder and only going on my understanding of the theory, but if you deck .325 off the block (and I think you'll need to do the block to keep the combustion chamber shape correct) then youll need to take an amount off the intake mani as well or the ports wont line up correctly. Maybe its not enough to make a difference????
Talk to the crank grinder or an engine builder.
We were having a chat about this last night - is it firm at 3500cc or is there a 50cc allowance simiar to classes 2 and 3? IE 1650cc and 1350cc???? Might save yourself some pain and $$$ if you have a chat to your state panel member.

.325mm is less than .020". So you might get away with not machining the manifold. I have some vrs gasket sets here if you are interested, nothing flash pressed steel head and manifold gaskets only.
State panel member is off to the Sunraysia 500 today so I wont bother him till Monday. A 50cc allowance would be great but they do state in the new classes that class 3 is up to 1330cc and class 2 1650cc and new class one is just up to 3500cc. Cant hurt to ask though!!
Could Chris please pm me on a price for the gaskets.
