Fuel Pump Cut Off

Hey all,

After some advice for a quick and easy (and low to no $$$) way of wiring in a fuel pump cut off on a stocker L24 engine... ie, no ECU and an electric pump.

Ive had a couple of suggestions thrown in, but Im curious as to what others are doing... Any suggestions appreciated!

This is very simple. A vw oil pressure switch that works backwards (normally open) is available, fit one & make it activate the #85 terminal on a mini relay to drive the pump. ie when there is no oil pressure there is no pump operation. Cheap & it works.

Excellent - this was pretty much my plan except I was told that the reversed switches are worth $100, hence looking about for a different option.  Good to know there's an off the shelf I can get!

I dont suppose youve got one lying around?  If not, I'll get one from one of the guys on the manx forum.

Late VW switches are color-coded, the one you need is either white, black or grey. $20 should get you out of the poo. If you can't get one local call Daneen.

Only problem with the oil pressure switch your going to need a seperate switch ( maybe push button) to prime the system so the engine will actually start or a lot of cranking time to develop oil pressure to trigger the pump.

Other option is to use an LPG gas control switch which turns of if no ignition trigger.

I used the LPG Relay this year. All good, no problems & does everything legally.

Get me out of the poo huh... how graphic.  :)

VW pressure switch will be purchased.  Not too worried about the delay in getting oil pressure up before starting the fuel pump as the fuel in the bowl should be enough to get it fired unless its been sitting about for a while.

thanks for everyones help, good to know that the lpg swich option exists, I wouldnt have thought of that.

As 'oldie' correctly suggests, a momentary switch (like a horn button) can be fitted as a 'prime' button & the few that I know have used this idea have done just that, still cheap & simple.

I found this post on Race-Dezert recently, and i thought that it was relevent to the post, but looking at it as a safety shutdown.

One of these cut out switches should do the trick.

Check out the cut outs, even allows for initial prime then shuts down. Hook this up to the fuel pump relay.
